I’m thinking about putting my home on the market. What should I do to make sure potential buyers see it in the best possible light? — Jason
Jason, it is an excellent time to sell your home. Prices are rising throughout Western Washington! However, selling is stressful. There’s an endless procession of would-be buyers walking through your home. Cleaning becomes the only thing to consider everyday because you want your home to look spotless.
It’s even stressful to consider the move that corresponds with a sale.
But when it’s time to move, it’s time to move! So it’s best to do everything you can to make sure your home is as enticing as possible to prospective buyers.
Looking Outside
So what to do? Well, a big aspect of prepping your house is to improve your curb appeal. A first impression goes a long way for a buyer and that view as they drive up to your home is the first aspect of the sale.
So make sure your home looks as beautiful as possible on the outside. This means, for starters, that your roof needs to be clean. You’ll want to remove all the dirt, algae, and moss so that the roof looks almost brand new. A blower will remove most of the loose debris on the roof. After that the process is usually best done with a power washer. However, be sure not to damage the roofing with too much pressure.
Next, you’ll want to clean your gutters. Not only is it a good idea to remove all of the debris on the inside of the gutter, but also give the outside a good wash so that there’s no dirt on the gutters and downspouts.
If you’re using a pressure washer, go ahead and wash the driveway as well. There are disks made for the purpose of cleaning concrete surfaces, or attachments that have a rotating spinning motion that are ideal for flat surfaces. Remove all that dirt!
Finally, your yard is another important aspect of curb appeal. Make sure the lawn is freshly moved. Add a new layer of bark or mulch around your plants. Cut back plants and weed as necessary.
If the home needs it, you can also add a new layer of paint just to convey the like-new feel.
Looking Inside
On the inside, the major aspect of prepping for your home sale is to stage your room. The biggest aspect of staging is to de-clutter as much of your home as possible. Get rid of anything that is taking up space. If you haven’t used it recently, it doesn’t need to be on display for potential homebuyers.
You can also consider how you mix and match items in your home. Where is the couch? What art or pictures do you hang in which rooms? Even consider mixing styles and costly items. trip planner It doesn’t make much sense to have one “luxurious” room and every other room looking drab in comparison.
Selling a home is stressful, but if you follow these steps, Jason, you’ll be well on your way to showing off the perfect home to interested buyers!
